In order to reinforce the Information, Communication, and Education (IEC) Campaign, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Region X collaborated with the Community Relations Officers and Practitioners Association in Region X (CROPAX) in conducting a Vlogging Contest featuring the benefits of mining to the communities in Region X. The said contest was administered through MGB-X’s official Facebook Page and was facilitated throughout the whole month of November 2021, in celebration of the 2021 Mining Month.
The guidelines were to simply create a three-to-eight-minute original video about the benefits of mining to the communities near them and to submit it through a Google form. Videos that pass the requirement set by the selection committee will be uploaded on Facebook for final judging with the criteria of 50% from the judges’ scores and 50% from the total amount of shares, likes, and views.
A total of eight (8) entries, three of which are from Bukidnon, and four of which are from Misamis Oriental, were uploaded in the MGB-X Facebook Page that garnered numerous numbers of likes, shares and views and were judged by, namely, Engr. Rodante B. Felina, Chief of the Mine Safety Environment and Social Development Division; Engr. Liberty B. Daitia, Chief of the Finance and Administrative Division; Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr., Chief of the Geosciences Division; Engr. Janice B. Furog, OIC-Chief of the Mine Management Division, and the OIC-Regional Director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X himself, Felizardo A. Gacad Jr.
In the end, three winners were announced during the post-celebration of the 123rd Anniversary of MGB on December 06, 2021 at the MGB-X Conference Room, DENR 10 Compound, Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City. 2nd Runner-up, Ms. Cindy Mermejo (Entry 5), received a total of Php 10,000.00, while 1st runner-up, Ms. Yvette Ann Ramas (Entry 6) received Php 15,000.00, and the winner, Ms. Princess Mancawan (Entry 8), who got the highest score, received Php 25,000.00. Series of initiatives have been done to strengthen the Information, Communication, and Education (IEC) Campaign about responsible mining. Social media helps continue to flourish and reach out to a wide range of people to inform and enlighten despite the physical restrictions and limitations imposed due to COVID-19. And with the success of the first-ever vlogging contest on the benefits of mining in Region X, MGB-X looks forward to more in the coming years.
