Senior High School students of Lugait National High School were attuned to Responsible Mining during the Learning Engagement conducted on February 26, 2020 in their school function hall. More than a hundred students were allowed to attend to get first-hand information on Responsible Mining.
Before the start of the lecture few students manifested their stand against mining, however, after the lecture on Responsible Mining by Engr. Rodante B. Felina, Mines and Geosciences X, Chief of the Mine, Environment, Safety and Social Development Division, these anti-mining students were convinced, transformed and conceived the context of Responsible Mining.
Students were then introduced to the recently launched Responsible Mining advocacy hashtag #MineResponsibility thru the three (3) video documentaries such as :
- Kutsara – a short infomercial showing the importance of mining in our everyday lives
- Minsan Na Kitang Minahan – showcasing the successful mined-out area rehabilitation of RioTuba in Bataraza, Palawan
- Biyaya ng Lupa – a video documentary depicting how Responsible Mining alleviate the socio economic status of the Mining community, the Indigenous Peoples and how the youth pursued their dreams of becoming professionals being mining sholars
Amused after the presentations, the videos gained applause from the students and some were enticed to pursue mining engineering after graduation. Students were also afforded copies of IEC materials about Mines and Geosciences produced by MGB Central Office.
Apart from MGB X, staff from Holcim Resources and Development Corporation (HRDC-Lugait Quarry) attended the activity headed by Mr. John Christopher Silvosa, HRDC, and Company Community Relations Manager. Mr. Silvosa presented thru a video documentary on HRDC’s Responsible Mining practices specifically on their Corporate Social Responsibility thru the implementation of their Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) to the students.
