An interactive presentation on geologic hazards was conducted by Mr. Jenisse Dowell N. Medel, Senior Geologist of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X on a Saturday afternoon last March 20, 2021 during the “Kaalam ug Giya: A Seminar on Geological Hazards and Disaster Preparedness” held at Barangay Nazareth Gymnasium, Cagayan de Oro City.

The learning event was in coordination with the Junior Chamber International Kagayhaan Gold (JCI-KG) with their aim to educate local barangay officials on the occurrence of natural geologic hazards and to increase awareness on disaster preparedness. It was attended by local barangay officials representing their respective Barangays in Cagayan De Oro City with imposed safety and health protocols such as social distancing and disinfection of participants.

The presentation of Mr. Medel focused on the two geologic hazards—flood and landslide. Thus, he stressed on the importance of being informed and ready. MGB-X also distributed Information, Education, Communication (IEC) materials to the participants.

Apart from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X, Mr. Carl Niño Walag from City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department was also invited to be one of the resource speakers. His presentation discussed about disaster preparedness.
