The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region X conducted an an Information, Education, Communication (IEC) forum on Responsible Mining before the members of the mining communities of Rainbird Trading and Equipment Rental during its SDMP Community Consultation on July 21, 2021 held in Iligan City. The activity was limited to only twenty (20) people in compliance to existing health and safety protocols.
The presentation focused on facts, benefits, and rules and regulations of responsible mining. Moreover, the process of following and maintaining a safe and sustainable mining operation was discussed, including the necessary programs for the welfare of the host and neighboring communities. The presentation was given by Engr. Rodante B. Felina, Chief of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the conduct of IEC campaigns has become challenging, although not impossible. Religiously following the safety and health protocols such as wearing of facemasks and face shields, MGB-X continues to find a way in informing the mining stakeholders about the laws, rules and regulations governing the minerals industry.
