MGB-X, together with the Junior Chamber International – Kagayhaan Gold (JCI-KG) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office – Claveria (MDRRMO-Claveria), installed two (2) landslide warning signages along the Claveria Road at Sitio Magbais, Barangay Mat-i, and Sitio Manibay, Barangay Aposkahoy, in the Municipality of Claveria, Misamis Oriental on April 22, 2022.

This community project entitled, “Kaalam ug Giya: Landslide Warning Signage Installation” was proposed by the JCI Kagayhaan Gold, a Cagayan de Oro-based local organization of JCI – a non-profit international non-governmental organization that tries to solve community problems and issues as one of its programs. MGB-X provided assistance to the JCI-KG for the said project.

On the afternoon of December 16, 2021, the torrential rain brought by the Super Typhoon Odette resulted to a landslide along the section of Claveria Road at Sitio Magbais, Barangay Mat-i, Municipality of Claveria. This rain-induced landslide destroyed the retaining wall built along the foot of a near-vertical slope, blocking the passage of motorists for several hours. It is for this landslide-prone nature of the area that the warning signages were placed.

A drastic increase in the number of motorists has been observed to pass the Claveria Road since it has been completely concreted, primarily because of its smoother traffic flow than the Butuan-Cagayan de Oro-lligan Coastal Road. The Claveria Road, however, presents numerous landslide-prone areas along its entire length. The installation of landslide warning signages aims to provide a safer road for motorists by warning them of the potential risks they may encounter as they pass the area.
