The City Mining Regulatory Board (CMRB) of Iligan City thru CMRB Resolution No. 21-10-263 , declared the 81-hectare area in Sitio Pinatagan, Barangay Mainit, Iligan  City of Region 10 as People’s Small-Scale Mining Area (PSSMA), or Minahang Bayan (MB) last October 4, 2021.

The declaration was made after the full compliance of the procedural and documentary requirements as People’s Small-Scale Mining Area/Minahang Bayan by the members of the Cooperative.

The said declaration was also in consonance to Section 2 of Republic Act 7076 and the DENR Administrative Order No. 2015-03 to quote “providing among others that it shall be the policy of the State to promote, develop, protect and rationalize viable small-scale mining activities in order to generate more employment opportunities and provide an equitable sharing of the nation’s wealth and natural resources, giving due regard to existing rights as herein provided under RA No. 7076”.

Likewise, Section 3 also provides “that in order to attain the objective, it shall implement the People’s Small-Scale Mining Program as provided under RA 7076; Effect an orderly, systematic  and ecologically balance administration and  disposition of Small-scale mining areas and regulate the small-scale mining industry, with a view of enhancing its growth and productivity, as well as ensuring environmental protection”.

The declaration was attested by CMRB Chair, MGB X OIC, Regional Director Felizardo A. Gacad, Jr., Virgilio B. Encabo, City Environment and Natural Resources Officer ll, Atty. Susan Echavez, Small-Scale Mining Sector representative-Member, Engr. Jake L. Digol, Large Scale Mining Sector representative-Member and Daisy U. Villamayor- Secretariat.

To note, the People’s Small- Scale mining area in Sitio Pinatagan is the 6th area being declared, counting three in the provinces of Bukidnon and 2 in Misamis Oriental respectively.

Moreover, CMRB Resolution No. 21-10-263 shall be forwarded to the Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Visayas Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, copy furnished the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, Central Office, North Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
