IEC (Information, Education, Communication) on Geologic Hazards and Disaster Awarenes and Preparedness (Disaster Risk Reduction) was conducted for city, municipal and barangay officials and representatives of cities and municipalities of Misamis Occidental.   Participants included the Punong Barangays, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (BDRRMOs), representatives from every barangay from the women’s, senior citizens, PWD, and youth sectors, the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs), the Local Government Operations Officers, the Local Environment and Natural Resources Officers, the Local Planning and Development Coordinators, the Local Engineers, the Local Social Welfare and Development Officers, and the Local Chief Executives or their representatives.

In September 2016, one city and seven municipalities of the province were divided into two clusters – on September 27, 2016 at the City Gymnasium of Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental (for Oroquieta City and the municipalities of Aloran and Lopez Jaena), and on September 28, 2016 at the Municipal Gymnasium of Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental (for the municipalities of Sinacaban, Clarin, Jimenez, Plaridel, and Tudela).

The succeeding week, the IEC was conducted at the Municipality of Concepcion on October 4, at the Municipality of Don Victoriano on October 5, and at Tangub City on October 6, 2016 for the respective local government units.

The IEC activities were conducted in coordination with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-10 (RDRRMC-10), the Department of the Interior and Local Government-10 (DILG-10), the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Misamis Occidental, and with the host LGUs – the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils of Oroquieta and Tangub, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils of Sinacaban, Concepcion, and Don Victoriano, Misamis Occidental.
