The Office conducted a seminar for the youth and was invited as resource person, one by a local government unit (LGU) and another by a national government agency (NGA), part of our continuing IEC (Information, Education, Communication) campaign.

A seminar for the youth was conducted by this Office on November 29, 2021 to infom and educate student-researchers of the Old Damulog National High School on Responsible Mining and on the National Quadrangle Geologic Mapping Program of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. The event was part of the celebration of this year’s Mining Month and the 123rd Founding Anniversary of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. The lecture on Responsible Mining was given by Engr. Neil P. Maata of the Mine Safety, Environment and Social Development Division, in lieu of Engr. Rodante B. Felina, Chief, MSESDD.  Engr. Maata introduced the basics of responsible mining methods promulgated by this Office. Ms. Lea Therese N. Bondad, Supervising Geologist, talked about the National Quadrangle Geologic Mapping Program of MGB. Ms. Bondad described the quadrangle geologic map and its contents. Joriel Jan M. Agod, Geologist-II, presented the methodology of geologic mapping. Mr. Joriel expounded on the dos and don’ts of field work. Jenisse Dowell N. Medel, Senior Geologist, introduced rock identification to the learners. Mr. Medel also tested the learners’ ability to identify rocks on their own. Comparing average pre-test and post-test scores, the learners gained a marked increase in knowledge on the subjects presented as evidenced by drastically better post-test scores.

On November 15, 2021, Chief Geologist Osin A. Sinsuat, Jr. gave a talk on Geologic Hazards, Geohazard Maps, and Disaster Awareness and Preparedness during the Updating Workshop on Local Climate Change Adaptation Plan (LCCAP), Community Risk Assessment (CRA) and Contingency Plan (CP) for CY 2022-2026, conducted by the Municipality of Kadingilan, Bukidnon.

On December 2, 2021, Mr. Sinsuat was Resource Speaker during the Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training conducted by the Department of Agriculture – Region X.
