Members of the Mindanao Association of Mining Engineers, Inc. converged along with geoscientists, environmentalists, academe, policy makers, community and other stakeholders in Davao City during the 24th Annual Mining Symposium and Exhibits held at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier on June 22-24, 2017.

This year’s’ Symposium which is anchored on the theme ‘”Equitable, Responsible Utilization of Mineral Resources under a Federal Republic State” with emphasis on Responsible Mining has lined up activities patterned for a three-day event.

MAEM President, Engr. Alexis M. Baligod stated that the government is enhancing the path of sustainable  peace and a protected environment defined  in this year’s symposium of the topics to be presented,  bringing  the benefits of a strong mining industry for every Filipino under a Federal State of governance.

The three day Symposium started with activities like tree planting, Opening of Mining Exhibits, Press Conference,   Sports Competition and Cocktails. The second day highlighted the event with the different paper presentations with DENR Undersecretary and concurrent Mines and Geosciences Bureau      Director Mario Luis J. Jacinto as the guest speaker. He pointed out his challenge to the participants being practitioners in the industry to be government’s partners in ensuring that our mineral are judiciously utilized and developed.

The Symposium went on the third day with the different paper presentations with corresponding open forums. One of the Paper Presented was “Federalism, It’s Impact on the Mining Industry “by Atty. Joel Cadiogan Obar, Chair and Founder –People’s Solidarity Federal Party.

DENR Secretary,  Gen. Roy Agullana Cimatu, AFP(RET) gave his message thru the Souvenir Program calling practicing mining professionals, to take an active role in ensuring that the mining industry will make a positive difference in the lives of people and the development of communities.

His Excellency, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave his warmest greetings to the Mindanao Association of Mining Engineers, Inc. (MAEM) as it celebrates its 24th Founding Anniversary and emphasized that our engineers play a vital role in our country’s sustainable development. As experts in the field, may you continue to contribute in maximizing and realizing our potential as one of the world’s most promising and fastest emerging economies.

The MAEM Symposium was in coordination with the Philippine Society of Mining Engineers and the Mines and Geosciences Bureau.  MGB-10 Mining Engineers headed by Regional Director Rex S. Monsanto along with representatives from large scale mining companies in Region 10 attended the said Symposium.
