Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. attended the Bajau Task Force meeting held at the conference room of the National Housing Authority in Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City on January 14, 2016.  The meeting was presided by Ms. Merle F. Adaza, Ph.D., Chair, PSAP (Psychosocial Association of the Philippines)-CDO Bajau Task Force and Consultant, City Social Welfare and Development Office.  The meeting included officials/representatives from PSAP, NHA, MGB, EMB, PENRO, CENRO-Initao, BFAR, DSWD, Philippine Coast Guard, PPA, City Planning and Development Office, City Assessor’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, Gawad Kalinga, Shell Philippines, Badjao Organization.  The meeting discussed Resolution No. 370-15 issued by the Office of the Barangay Council of Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City allowing the resettlement of the indigenous Bajau community in the housing project of Bajau housing site in the coastal area of Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City.

CENRO Resma (CENRO-Initao) presented a letter recommending for the opinion of DENR offices on the matter, including from the MGB, EMB, and the ARD for Technical Services particularly on protected area concerns.

On the part of the MGB, Sinsuat informed the body that the issuance of certification from concerned agencies is not merely a requirement of the DENR but is also a requirement under the GAA (General Appropriations Act).  Sinsuat informed the body that the NHA is aware of the requirements on housing projects especially if the documents will have to be submitted to the HLURB.  Sinsuat called on the body to review the Presidential Decree on the Water Code of the Philippines.

CENRO Resma reiterated to the body the statement of the MGB representative to revisit the Water Code.
