The 2022 Geoscience Workshop was held virtually via Microsoft Teams from 2022. February 7 to 11. This year’s Geoscience Workshop had for its theme, “Moving Towards Efficient Strategic Implementation of MGB Geoscience Programs.” MGB-Lands Geological Survey Division Chief Geologist Liza Socorro J. Manzano and the Section Chiefs of MGB-LGSD presided over the workshop and its various sessions.
The first day presented the accomplishments from the previous year, as well as relevant issues and concerns regarding the implementation of all geoscience programs of the MGB. A breakout session ensued on the first day’s afternoon, wherein relevant issues and concerns were discussed and addressed in smaller groups (5 regions per group).
The second day tackled new guidelines on stratigraphy in collaboration with the Geological Society of the Philippines and the Paleontological Society. The day’s sessions also addressed issues and concerns regarding the National Mineral Reservation Program.
The third day tackled issues and concerns of the National Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment Program, especially on the outputs and harmonization of 1:250,000 and 1:50,000 scale hydrogeologic maps.
The fourth day addressed issues and concerns on the implementation of the National Geohazard Assessment and
Mapping Program. EGGAR issues were also tackled in the afternoon of this day.
The last day delved into the guidebook for ECA and Disaster Affected Areas and on the standardized methodology of the geohazard Operation Center. The workshop closed with the presentation of the workshop’s outputs and agreements.
