Through the Microsoft Teams video conferencing application, geologists from this and other regional offices participated in the five-day virtual Geoscience Workshop organized by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Central Office from 2021. February 15 to 19.

The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Antonio Apostol, Jr. followed by an

inspirational message by MGB Director Atty. Wilfredo Moncano (photo, right).

The plenary sessions, taking up the first two days, then started with the program heads presenting a report on the CY 2020 accomplishments, overall status, indicators, issues and concerns, and future plans for the National Geoscience Programs (Geohazard Assessment and Mapping, Geologic Quadrangle Mapping, Groundwater Resource and Vulnerability Assessment, and Mineral Reservation). Invited speakers from the academe and industry presented technical topics in these initial sessions.

Personnel concerned with the specific Geoscience Program broke out into parallel sessions for the last three days of the workshop in which in-depth technical discussions including the assignment of CY 2021 targets and the standardization of the procedures, methodologies and map formats were carried out.

The workshop closed with the synthesis, the workshop outputs and agreements  and followed by a closing message by MGB Assistant Director Roland De Jesus.
