Regional Director Rex Monsanto and staff attended the recently-concluded 2018 MGB Annual Technical Forum held at Paraiso Verde, Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
Twenty-four technical papers and eight policy papers were selected for competition. In addition, two non-competing papers were presented. Eight posters were entered.
Geologist Jenisse Dowell Medel, representing Region X, presented a technical paper on “Report on the Updating of the 1:50,000 Scale Geologic Map of the Burdeos Quadrangle Covering Parts of the Province of Quezon in Region IV-Calabarzon”.
Vincent Gascal of Region XII won the Best Technical Paper Award for “Preliminary Hydrogeological Assessment of Asik-Asik Waterfalls in Barangay Upper Dado, Alamada, Province of Cotabato”. Emma Deverala of Region IX won the Best Policy Paper Award for “Institutionalization of the Convergence Area Development Plan: An Engagement Tool for Poverty Alleviation of the Laborer Indigenous Cultural Community in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte”. Ms. Deverala also won the Best Presenter Award. The award is given to a first-time presenter in the forum. Julius Vincent Umali of the Lands Geological Survey Division, Central Office won the Best Poster Award for “GSJ International Training Course on Practical Geological Survey Techniques 2018 – Application to Geological Disaster Mitigation”.
The Board of Judges included former DENR Undersecretary Jeremias Dolino, former DENR Undersecretary and MGB Director Mario Luis Jacinto, and Ms. Maria Teresa Ignacio, Professor of Metallurgy, MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology.
