July is National Disaster Resilience Month in the country.
Executive Order No. 29 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte on June 28, 2017 mandates the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month nationwide every July through activities related to the building of disaster resilience covering the four thematic areas: prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response and rehabilitation, and recovery.
Typhoons, earthquakes, floods and landslides are no longer just the hazards that Filipinos face. The current coronavirus crisis has shed light on the dangers of global pandemics.
This year’s theme is, “Sama-samang Pagsulong Tungo sa Katatagan sa Gitna ng Bagong Normal”.
In line with the observance, RD Efren Carido tasked the Geosciences Division to give a presentation on geologic hazards for MGB-X personnel. On July 28, Chief Geologist Osin Sinsuat, Jr. gave an IEC (Information, Education, Communication) on the DENR-MGB National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program, thru Google meet, in coordination with the ICT Unit. Ms. Almira Mae Cainglet, Administrative Assistant I, acted as emcee. Mr. Sinsuat gave a live presentation from the Conference Room, with only four other people in the room, all wearing face masks. Mr. Sinsuat removed his face mask for clarity but put on a face shield for protection. This is the new normal.
